No Wonder Why Al Gore Won't Debate

Here's what happens when a climate change activist debates a scientist:
H/t The Daily Bayonet.

And, by the way, it turns out that the climate change spokesman from Moscow is somewhat unfamiliar with the history of his own country. Malaria existed in Russia despite the cold climate and it was a serious health hazard back at the turn of the 20th century, with ~5 million cases reported annually - in a population of ~170 million. No wonder the tsar himself mentioned malaria in his diary - except that the climate change proponent didn't want to hear about it, preferring to blame it on global warming. (Oh, well, even the mainstream media has begun to notice that environmentalism is a treason against science.)

And here's another article on green totalitarianism:
This material has revealed what has been described as ‘Nixonian-style paranoid plotting’ by these scientists to defraud the public. Actually, I think it reveals something even worse.

What appears to be the case is that these scientists did not set out to mislead the world so much as try to force data which did not correspond to their ideology of anthropogenic global warming to support that ideology. For me, one of the most telling emails was this one from Phil Jones on the Medieval Warm Period (MWP):
Bottom line - their is no way the MWP (whenever it was) was as warm globally as the last 20 years. There is also no way a whole decade in the LIA period was more than 1 deg C on a global basis cooler than the 1961-90 mean. This is all gut feeling, no science, but years of experience of dealing with global scales and varaibility. (My emphasis)
In other words, despite the fact that science (or history) tells us that the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than today, thus destroying the basis of the AGW myth that we are living through an unprecedented warming of the climate caused by carbon dioxide arising from industrialisation, it cannot be true – because the Hadley CRU Director’s ‘gut’ tells him so.

All the manipulation, distortion and suppression revealed by these emails took place because it would seem these scientists knew their belief was not only correct but unchallengeable; and so when faced with evidence that showed it was false, they tried every which way to make the data fit the prior agenda. And those who questioned that agenda themselves had to be airbrushed out of the record, because to question it was simply impossible. Only AGW zealots get to decide, apparently, what science is. Truth is what fits their ideological agenda. Anything else is to be expunged.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. We have the green totalitarianism influencing our culture in many ways - from the ill-famous "your parents [screwed]up the planet" Green party posters to the perception that babies are bad for the environment. Green Marxism is not any better than the Red Marxism.

P.S. No Apologies editors took their time to gather all climate-gate links on one page. Check it out. Great job, No Apologies!

Independent Schools - Education With A Value System

And some left-wing journalists find these values disturbing:
Liberal Canadians will not enjoy hearing that only 12% of students at Christian independent schools approve of homosexuality, compared to the Canadian teen average of 44%. Even fewer Christian school students approve of abortion. (Curiously enough, teenagers attending Sikh, Muslim, Jewish and other religious schools approve of homosexuality at almost the same level as other Canadian teens, and their opposition to abortion is not as strong as evangelical and Catholic students.)

At the same time, many Canadian would appreciate certain values expressed by students attending faith-based schools. For instance, youngsters attending private Christian and other religious schools (the latter group are typically the offspring of recent immigrants) are more likely to value hard work and to say they would return a $10 bill if they found it. As well, religious school students are slightly more likely than other Canadian teenagers to be concerned about world poverty, and believe people in other countries deserve our help.
No wonder the governments are eager to take more control over independent schools. The difference is just with the methods they propose: In Quebec they make sex education and "world religion" classes mandatory for all schools, including private and religious ones. In Ontario there are courts to remind Catholic school principals that their schools are publicly funded first and only then Catholic. (John Tory's funding proposal would have put the remaining few independent schools under the same regime.)

And in other provinces their strategy is to sit back and wait until parents simply can't afford paying for both education systems at once. Despite Douglas Todd's claim that "many provinces help fund the private schools through tax dollars", parents that choose independent schools for their children, receive no tax credits for opting out of the public education system. As result, they are effectively paying twice - their tax dollars go towards sustaining the public system which they don't use and then they have the public school tuition on top of that. If we want our children to be taught what's right and not what's politically correct - we must demand a voucher system.

When Homosexual Lobby Triumphs — What Else Will Become Illegal?

How implied "gay rights" threaten anyone else's rights - here's a long list of examples compiled by David Cloud:
...YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO SAY ANYTHING THAT MIGHT APPEAR BIASED AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY

In 1997 Jo Ann Knight was fired by the Connecticut Department of Public Health after she counseled a homosexual couple from the Bible about salvation and about the necessity of repenting of sin. Knight’s job was to supervise the provision of medical services by Medicare agencies to home health care patients, and in that capacity she interviewed patients. The homosexuals filed a complaint with the Commission of Home Health Rights. A district court upheld Knight’s dismissal, claiming that her religious speech caused her clients distress and interfered with the performance of her duties.
...
...YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO CONDUCT MINISTRIES TO HELP HOMOSEXUALS LEAVE THAT LIFESTYLE

The following is excerpted from “Now It’s Ex-’gays’ getting pummeled,” WorldNetDaily, May 28, 2008:

“Regina Griggs, the executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, said her organization and staff members repeatedly have been attacked simply because of their message: that there are such individuals as former homosexuals. Some attacks have been physical, such as the incident at Arlington County Fair…

“Griggs said at that time, ‘The gays became infuriated when our ex-gay volunteers testified about leaving homosexuality … One gay man went so far as to hit our ex-gay volunteer because he refused to recant his ex-gay testimony.”
...
...YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO USE THE TERMS FATHER/MOTHER, HUSBAND/WIFE

The legalization of homosexuality is already beginning to destroy the concept of father and mother, husband and wife.

The new marriage licenses in California replace “husband and wife” with “Party A and Party B”.

In Scotland, teachers in some major cities have banned Father’s Days cards this years so as not to offend students who live with single mothers and lesbians. The London Telegraph reports, “The politically correct policy was quietly adopted at schools ‘in the interest of sensitivity’ over the growing numbers of lone-parent and same-sex households” (”Father’s Day Cards Banned,” June 20, 2008)
What's next to be banned? And who's next to be fired from his job, arrested and hauled in front of a freedom-snatching committee (or even a criminal court) for merely saying something the homosexual lobby doesn't agree with?

Next month, Ontario Divisional Court is going to hear the appeal, Christian Horizons filed against the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal decision; a decision, which essentially forbade the social services organization from operating as a Christian ministry. This and Stephen Boissoin’s case in Alberta are the two most prominent cases of Christian persecution in Canada in recent years. But, as you can see, those are certainly not the only two. And even David's list of examples is not exhaustive.

Homosexualist jackboots are quite open about the inherently leftist, socialist, state-ist, anti-family, anti-Christian nature of their agenda and they're not willing to tolerate any opposition.
If homosexuality is fully legalized and homosexual activists are given every right they demand, citizens in western nations will be robbed of many liberties they have heretofore enjoyed. This is not a guess; it is a judgment based on current facts. The right to free speech and the right to the free exercise of religion, in particular, will be effectively destroyed.

Demographic Headwinds Threaten Atlantic Canada Economies

For the umpteenth time - you can't have a strong economy without strong families:
TORONTO – The twin demographic challenges of an aging population and slow workforce growth will affect Canada’s Atlantic provinces more acutely than other regions of the country, according to a study released today by the C.D. Howe Institute. In “Stress Test: Demographic Pressures and Policy Options in Atlantic Canada,” authors Colin Busby, William B.P. Robson and Pierre-Marcel Desjardins warn that many years of low birthrates and youth outmigration mean that the Atlantic region faces diminished workforce growth and a fiscal squeeze as fewer taxpayers support a growing bill for public programs.

The authors outline the likely evolution of the size and age-structure of each Atlantic province’s population and highlight the potential impacts of international and interprovincial migration trends on living standards and fiscal sustainability in the years ahead. Finally, they canvas some policy tools to deal with the challenges.
And yet, even under their most optimistic scenario, Atlantic Canada is going to face a declining workforce and a prolonged period of population decline. Here in New Brunswick, the number of deaths has already caught up with the ever declining number of births. Next year, the province's natural growth will be negative; there will be more deaths than births. (And yet, nearly a thousand of unborn New Brunswickers will be slaughtered before they get a chance to see daylight - at Morgentaler's, for a fee or in our hospitals, under the guise of "medical necessity", at taxpayers' expense.)

By 2050s, according to the Howe Institute's prognosis, the ratio between the people of working age and the seniors will shrink to just over 2:1. Again, that's under their most optimistic scenario. Under a pessimistic scenario, the old age dependency ratio in some provinces could climb to almost 70%, which means - for every 2 seniors there will be only 3 people of working age to support them.

But you don't have to wait until 2050s to see the effect of the demographic disaster that awaits Atlantic Canada. New Brunswick is already in a situation of a "mom and pop" enterprise that is being bought out by a chain store giant next door. Yes, I'm talking about the recent acquisition of the key NB Power assets by Hydro Quebec.

And yes, the deal, if you look at it from the business prospective, seems perfectly reasonable. Obviously, with the population of mere 750,000 scattered across 72,000 square kilometers, a separate generation system and transmission grid is simply not worth maintaining. (Not to mention that the fossil fuel plants are going to be shut down anyway, due to environmental constraints and the province just can't afford to build new ones.)

Sure, a bigger company is going to do the job more efficiently and provide electricity at lower rates. (Currently New Brunswickers pay 60% more than Quebecers.) But in return, the province relinquishes its control over a vital part of its infrastructure, granting the ability to make key decisions over the power supply and the transmission grid to its next door neighbor.

Could New Brunswick ever buy back those assets, let's say with the help of the Bank of Canada? Not with that kind of demographic prognosis. Unless the four Atlantic provinces succeed in reversing the trend, they could end up being incorporated into larger jurisdictions or - downgraded to the status of federally-managed territories.

A Consensus Built On Sand

If there was in fact a consensus on "global warming" and "man-made climate change". Here's a great article by By Neil Dykstra:
If nothing else, the leaked e-mails from the Climate Research Unit at University of East Anglia have prompted a healthy degree of suspicion on the processes of the scientific community. Principal of these is the practice of peer-review, in which scientific work is verified by other experts in the field. It is widely regarded to be the gold standard of scientific authenticity. Consequently, peer-reviewed research is often deemed to be the closest thing to objective truth. Subsequently, the term “peer-review” was used by many a politician as a means to authenticate their ideology and discredit others.

The leaked e-mails give a glance into a politicized environment in which the peer-reviewed process is rigged in order to guarantee a consensus. Dissenting researchers are sidelined by denying entry of their work into the peer-review process. Websites that are intended to discuss climate science are carefully controlled to promote one point of view and discredit others.
...
The disregard for truth is exemplified both by Pope Leo X, who imposed silence on church officials to combat Luther’s ninety-five theses, and also by climate researchers like Tom Wigley, who state that perception is much more important than truth. Money is stolen from the people by taking advantage of their sense of guilt, either by the sale of indulgences or by the marketing of carbon offsets. Those who oppose the political consensus are persecuted, some by religious inquisitions and others by discrediting, marginalization, jailing, and threats of violence.
So, they were hiding the data which disproved their theory; they tried to silence their opponents, often resorting to threats, boycotts and blackmail - and they still claimed that there was a "consensus". Yeah, right.

Finally - here's a nice video. It would be funny if it wasn't for our freedom, not to mention our jobs being threatened. Too bad that those involved in the "climate gate" are unlikely to be held responsible in a criminal court.

Poll: Large Majority of Canadians Disagree With Status-Quo On Abortion

Our opponents may claim that the abortion debate is over and should never be reopened. The politicians may agree with them. But the public opinion on the status quo is different:
For the ninth year in a row, a majority of Canadians have rejected the status quo on abortion in this country, according to a new poll. Over half of respondents to the poll said there should be legal protection for human life before birth and over two-thirds say abortions should only be paid for by taxpayers in medical emergencies or in cases of rape or incest.

A poll by Environics Research of 2002 Canadians found that only one-third of Canadians agree with the current policy that denies any protection to unborn babies before birth. The majority, 56%, support legal protection at some stage before birth: 30% support legal protection from conception on, 17% after three months of pregnancy and 8% after six months of pregnancy. Once again, support for legal protection from conception on is much higher among women, 35%, than men at 25%.

The disconnect between official policy and the opinions of Canadians is even more stark in the area of abortion funding. Most abortions in Canada, which now total well over 100,000 annually, are paid for by taxpayers through the publicly funded health care system. Yet when asked, 68% of Canadians polled said that abortions should be either privately funded (18%) or only tax-funded in cases of medical emergency "such as a threat to the mother's life or in cases of rape or incest." Only 26% support tax-funding of all abortions, down from 30% last year.
Meanwhile, we have the hard-left feminist Liberal MPs attacking Maurice Vellacott, a Conservative MP for Saskatoon—Wanuskewin for his comments on abortion. They claim that even the slightest opposition to unrestricted tax-funded abortions through all 9 months of pregnancy "insults and denigrates women" and they accuse him of "making statements that are medically incorrect to support his moral ideology".

Well, in reality, we have more women than men supporting full legal protection of the unborn. As for their claims that Maurice Vellacott's statements are "medically incorrect" - if Lise Zarac and Anita Neville know so little about fetal development and about the known side-effects of abortions, maybe their place is not in Parliament, but in high-school?

Opposing Secular Humanist Tyranny — Why Is Canada Lagging Behind?

In the US, a group of prominent Christian leaders and scholars have issued the Manhattan Declaration, a manifesto declaring firm opposition to current and future laws infringing upon the sanctity of life, marriage, faith, and liberty. In Australia, Cardinal George Pell, warned his fellow citizens about the threats to fundamental human rights such as freedom of religion and conscience, arising from the modern scramble to prohibit discrimination against people based on "sexual orientation" or "gender identity". What about Canada? When are we going to see our spiritual leaders making a stand against the star chambers, which abrogate our freedoms for the sake of their secular humanist utopias?

Think about it:
Cardinal Pell opened by discussing one instance of the problem: the current attitude of the Australian Human Rights Commission (HRC). A recent paper delivered by senior members of the HRC, he said, begins with the words: "The compatibility of religious freedom with human rights is the subject of the most comprehensive study ever undertaken in Australia in this area."

"Let us spell this out," said the Cardinal. "The clear meaning of these words is that religious freedom is not a human right and may not be compatible with human rights."

The same paper, he continued, suggests that the interaction of religious groups in the public sphere ought to be moderated by "the hand of government, even if gentle and gloved."

"No doubt we are to be reassured by the prospect of a nanny state, rather than the jack-boot," Cardinal Pell said. But all of this, he continued, "simply underscores the need for a different sort of inquiry; not into whether religious freedom is compatible with human rights, but into whether this enquiry of the Human Rights Commission is compatible with human rights."

The problem for the HRC, he said, is that "rights to life, to marriage, to family; the recognition of the family based on marriage as the fundamental unit of society; the rights of parents to determine the moral and religious education of their children; and the rights to freedom of religion, belief, and conscience, are all recognized by the major international human rights agreements."

But such rights "stand squarely in the road of the radical autonomy project which the extreme left, the anti-religious left is pushing."

"This is the main reason why these inconvenient rights have been read-down, reinterpreted and displaced by other, newer 'rights' such as those to abortion, euthanasia, anti-discrimination and same-sex marriage."
You can find a full transcript of Cardinal Pell's speech here. Now, isn't Canada facing the very same issues? So where's a Canadian version of the Manhattan Declaration? What keeps our spiritual leaders from issuing one?

Euthanasia Supporters Delay The Vote On C-384

This is not the first time they try to save C-384 from being defeated by delaying the vote. The new scheduled date for the debate on C-384 is Tuesday, February 2, 2010 with the vote taking place on February 3. Obviously they are trying to win some more time, but, judging from the letter I received from my MP, Brian Murphy, there aren't that many Liberal MPs they can count on. Hopefully, the bill still gets defeated, despite the euthanasia supporters' attempts to win some more time.

From the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition e-mail update:
Remember: C-384 gives medical practitioners the right to directly and intentionally cause the death of their patients, if the patient “appears to be lucid”, and is suffering chronic physical or mental pain or is terminally ill. That means that a person who is not terminally ill but “appears to be lucid” and is living with chronic depression can be directly and intentionally killed by a medical practitioner.

We need to maintain the political pressure on every MP in Canada. We need you to send hand-written letters to your MP or to every MP.

You can read my commentary on Rom Houben, the Belgium man who was misdiagnosed as PVS for 23 years. This is a very important issue considering how Terri Schiavo died in 2005. Link to my article at: http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2009/11/siginificance-of-case-of-man-who-for-23.html
The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is still hosting a media conference on Tuesday, December 1 on Parliament Hill at 1:30 pm (Charles Lynch room 130s) and Steven Passmore, the disability advocate who was born with cerebral palsy will still be protesting C-384 and doing media interviews on December 1 at 4pm.

Book Which Debunks Climate Change

No, this is not about those e-mails that have been retrieved from the enviro-crooks' computers. This is about a book by Christopher Booker, who knew that global warming is a fraud, long before those incriminating e-mails were discovered:
Just imagine if we learned we were about to be landed with the biggest bill in the history of the world - simply on the say-so of a group of scientists. Would we not want to be absolutely sure that those scientists were 100 per cent dependable in what they were saying?

Should we not then be extremely worried - and even very angry - if it emerged that those scientists had been conspiring among themselves to fiddle the evidence for what they were telling us?
...
I recently published a book on what I have no hesitation in calling the most alarming story I have ever reported in all my years as a journalist.

This is the story of how the belief that the world has to fight the threat of global warming has crept to the top of the political agenda, to the point where, not just in Britain but across the world, governments are solemnly discussing by far the most costly series of measures any bunch of politicians has proposed.
...
On every side we are told that 'the science is settled', that '2,500 of the world's top climate scientists' agree that these terrifying predictions will all come true unless we take the most drastic action. So carried away have they all been by this belief that scarcely a single politician dares question it.

Yet the oddest thing which has become increasingly evident in the past year or two is the fact that almost none of these things is happening, certainly not in the way those computer models have been predicting. Although carbon dioxide levels have continued to increase, temperatures have not been rising in the way the computer models all agree they should have done.
The book is entitled "The Real Global Warming Disaster: Is The Obsession With 'Climate Change' Turning Out To Be The Most Costly Scientific Blunder In History?" Obviously, that is a rhetorical question.

Pro-Life Heroine Linda Gibbons Still In Prison — Please Consider Sending A Christmas Card

Linda Gibbons was arrested on Jan.20 for attempting to speak with women entering the Scott abortion facility in Toronto. She's been in prison since then. This is yet another Christmas Linda is going to spend away from home. Her total accumulated jail time is seven years Please consider sending her a Christmas card; that will encourage her and to let her know that she isn’t forgotten.
Linda Gibbons
Vanier Centre for Women
655 Martin St., Box 1040
Milton, ON L9T 5E6
Also, please consider participating in a special prayer for Linda's appeal:
Let’s show Hell some of our Prayer Power by joining together at the same time on Dec. 10th at 10:30 a.m.. Please set your cell phones, alarms, whatever to stop what you’re doing and ask for a victory. Linda’s appeal is set for December 10th from 10:30 to approx.12:00 at Osgoode Hall – 130 Queen St. W (at University). We will be doing Show the Truth from 8:15 to 10:30 outside Osgoode Hall along University Avenue. God bless. Please pray for Linda, her lawyer Dan Santoro and the three judges hearing the case.
Update: Here are a few "do"s and "don't"s to remember when sending a Christmas card to Linda:
1. Don’t use stickers (address, return address, pro-life) on the envelope or card.

2. Don’t send any laminated cards, bookmarks, prayer cards, pro-life pamphlets. Non-laminated items will get to her.

3. Don’t ask direct questions about daily activity of the detention centre.

4. Put your address directly in the card or letter. (Sometimes the mail sorter keeps the envelope and Linda feels badly if she can’t write back.)

5. If you would like to send a little monetary gift to Linda it must be a money order made out to “Linda Gibbons”. The detention centre will deposit the money directly to her account. She uses any donations for envelopes and stamps.

6. Many people add a variety of Christian reading material in their mailings to her. She often shares articles with others in the Centre. She can receive pro-life material that show the development of the baby but not post abortion photos. She can’t receive books. Try to stick to one or two pages of reading materials or pamphlets.

Copenhagen Conference — A Step Towards Global Government

The newly appointed "president" of the EUSSR has just said so:
The Climate Conference in Copenhagen is another step forward towards the global management of our planet
(2:03 mark)
And, of course, all the rhetoric about hope and change... Well, we've heard plenty of that lately, didn't we?

And it says it all about all the green activists out there. Those who know well that global warming theory has no scientific backing, those who know that all those environmental treaties are wealth transfer scams that will cripple our economy without benefiting the environment, those are crooks. And those of them who naively believe that carbon dioxide is a pollutant and that buying carbon credits from the third world will somehow make the air cleaner, those are useful idiots. (So what will it be, Ms May & Co, are you guys crooks or just useful idiots?)

And, in light of what the enviro-crooks and their euro-fascist friends say quite openly, this passionate speech no longer sounds like some crazy conspiracy theory. There may be some exaggerations, but some of what this guy mentions, is already there.

Can There Be A Better Proof That Global Warming Is A Fraud?

Way to go whoever made the envirocrooks' archives public!
Electronic files that were stolen from a prominent climate research center and made public last week provide a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes battle to shape the public perception of global warming.

While few U.S. politicians bother to question whether humans are changing the world's climate -- nearly three years ago the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded the evidence was unequivocal -- public debate persists. And the newly disclosed private exchanges among climate scientists at Britain's Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia reveal an intellectual circle that appears to feel very much under attack, and eager to punish its enemies.

In one e-mail, the center's director, Phil Jones, writes Pennsylvania State University's Michael E. Mann and questions whether the work of academics that question the link between human activities and global warming deserve to make it into the prestigious IPCC report, which represents the global consensus view on climate science.

"I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report," Jones writes. "Kevin and I will keep them out somehow -- even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"
That's what they call as scientific debate. And if someone does publish something the envirofascists don't agree with - they call for a boycott of the dissenting article and of the journal that published it. Anyone else needs to be convinced that global warm-mongering has nothing to do with science or climate research, that it's all about money?
It’s unthinkable. Big Government has spent $79 billion on the climate industry, 3000 times more than Big Oil. Leading climate scientists won’t debate in public and won’t provide their data. What do they hide? When faced with freedom-of-information requests they say they’ve “lost” the original global temperature records. Thousands of scientists are rising in protest against the scare campaign. Meanwhile $126 billion turned over in carbon markets in 2008 and bankers get set to make billions.
There are thousands of e-mail transcripts posted on the Alleged CRU e-mails website. How about each one of us picking one of those e-mails and forwarding it to Stephen Harper, asking him not to attend the Copenhagen gathering of enviro-crooks and earth-worshipers?

Freedom Of Speech Aborted At McGill University

Barbara Kay weighs in on the McGill "student society's" decision to suspend the official club status of the university's pro-life club Choose Life. While Barbara doesn't believe that the club's decision to host the Echoes of the Holocaust presentation was right (and she strongly disagrees with linking abortion to the Holocaust,) she condemns the "student society's" decision to silence the club, rather than presenting their counter-arguments:
So there isn't a single student at McGill University who can possibly be more offended than I am by Holocaust-abortion linked imagery. Nevertheless, if Choose Life is foolish enough to pursue this self-destructive strain of argumentation, they have the right to do so. And other groups have the right to rebut it as I did. So it is disingenuous of SMUU to pretend that this is not a free speech issue. This is an issue of Political Correctness plain and simple.
...
The suspension of Choose Life is a witchhunt and a very serious breach of McGill's supposed dedication to free speech for all comers. Ms Woolf claims that "we take complaints seriously" but also noted that the suspension was the result of exactly four student complaints to Equity. Four disgruntled individuals took down an advocacy club! Is this SSMU's idea of democracy?
I bet, if these were four Christian students complaining about a controversial presentation by a homosexual club - their complaint would be dismissed outright. Ditto - if four Jewish students complained about the pro-"Palestinian" organization on campus, which does use false and one-sided information, as well as offensive comparisons.

So this is an issue of free speech vs political correctness, which is enforced by the so called "student society". And the only way to address it is to make student union membership voluntary, so that students could opt-out of the major union membership and use their membership dues as they please, including - forming their own, parallel unions.

14 Points About Bill C-384

By Alex Schadenberg - 14 reasons why C-384 is dangerous to society and must be defeated:
  1. Bill C-384 would legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada.

  2. Bill C-384 does not restrict intended death to Canadian citizens, thus if passed it would make Canada a destination for suicide tourists.

  3. The person may refuse appropriate treatments and still die by an intended death. A medical practitioner cannot determine that there is no prospect of relief from pain if the person refuses appropriate treatments.

  4. Bill C-384 allows intended death for people who experience depression or other chronic mental conditions.

  5. Bill C-384 does not limit intended death to the terminally ill and it does not define terminal illness.

  6. Bill C-384 measures competency based on “appearing to be lucid,” a term that does not assure that the person is actually lucid.

  7. Bill C-384 would allow intended death for incompetent people stated while competent their intentions.

  8. The language of the bill is not clear whether medical practitioners are the only persons who can intend the death of an incompetent person.

  9. Bill C-384 would require at least two medical practitioners to confirm the diagnosis in writing, but the bill does not prohibit doctor shopping.

  10. Bill C-384 would require that all requests for intended death be made free of duress. This is an illusion as no assurances are built into the bill.

  11. Bill C-384 would require the medical practitioner to inform the person of all alternatives — but there is no requirement for patients try effective treatments.

  12. Bill C-384 would assure that the person may revoke their request at any time, but this is also an illusion without safeguards to protect those who change their mind about intended death.

  13. Bill C-384 would require the medical practitioner to provide confirmation of the diagnosis to the coroner. This is a form of after-the-fact reporting. The medical practitioner is only required to a file a report after the person has died. This is only a safeguard for the medical practitioner and not the person who is dead.

  14. The definition of medical practitioner is not limited to a physician.

"Human Rights" Tribunals Know Who Is A Racist

Remember Jean Chretien's "a proof is a proof and when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven"? Well, "human rights" tribunals need none. If they believe you're a racist - they'll convict you without bothering looking for evidence:
The Toronto Police Service says it is considering applying for a judicial review of a human rights tribunal decision that found one of its officers racially profiled a woman but failed to find any evidence of racist attitudes.

A Nov. 9 ruling from the tribunal found that Sgt. Stephen Ruffino violated the Ontario Human Rights Code when he stopped Sharon Abbott on March 26, 2007.
...
The tribunal found Abbott's own behaviour contributed to the escalation of the incident and noted that Ruffino did not appear to take any steps to defuse the incident.

But the ruling noted there was no evidence Ruffino "consciously subscribes to any such (racist) attitudes or belief systems."

Toronto Police spokesman Mark Pugash said this decision makes any defence against a racial profiling allegation impossible and follows a ruling last summer that Chief Bill Blair described as setting an impossibly high standard for the force to defend against racial bias.
Once again, one doesn't have to be a lone radical or a fundamentalist preacher to be targeted by a freedom-snatching commission. The Toronto Police Service wants a judicial review - let's see if that helps to expose the true nature of those Orwellian tribunals to those who still believe that "human rights" commissions actually have something to do with protecting human rights.

You Have The Right To Be Brainwashed

Sarah Flicker, a York University professor, claims that "access to sexual-health education is a basic human right". But judging from her arguments against Alberta's bill 44, (which enshrined parents' right to withdraw their children from classes on so called "sexual orientation", sexuality or religion,) she apparently believes that this "right" is in fact a duty.
"It's clear that one-size-fits-all prevention strategies don't work; we need to be tailoring our health-promotion and prevention strategies to meet the needs of diverse young people," she said.

"We need to be addressing issues of racism, of sexism, of homophobia, in our curriculum, and talking about how these harmful messages can often impede our ability to make really good choices."
Yep. That's what it's all about. It starts with the declared goal of providing children with information about health, but then it inevitably comes to indoctrination. What does racism have to do with sexual health? Then we have "addressing homophobia" - e.g. telling children that any objection to a sexually deviant behavior is a hate crime. And bashing those old-timers whose "harmful messages" about abstinence impede one's ability to make "really good choices". Well, let's take a look at how good those choices really are:
“Syphilis, on the verge of being eliminated in the United States about 10 years ago, also has been increasing lately. About 13,500 cases of the most contagious form of the disease were reported in 2008, up from about 11,500 the year before,” adds the CP story. “Unlike chlamydia, health officials think syphilis cases actually are increasing. Syphilis rates are up among both gay men and heterosexuals, said Douglas, director of the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention.” (A CDC spokesman said they believe higher rates of chlamydia are due to better screening.) Gonorrhea cases have apparently dropped.

“Girls, ages 15 through 19, had the largest reported number of chlamydia and gonorrhea cases, accounting for more than one in four of those cases. But they’re often screened more than other people, since 1993 federal recommendations that emphasize testing for sexually active women age 25 and under. The government estimates there are roughly 19 million new cases of sexually transmitted disease annually. Experts say the most common is HPV, human papillomavirus, which can cause genital warts, cervical cancer and other cancers,” reported CP. Oh, and, by the way, “Syphilis can kill if untreated.”
Anyone is still eager to send his children to a class where they'll be taught that they can do whatever they want; satisfy every desire they might have and face no consequences as long as they follow some safety instructions? S. Flicker is upset that there's a province in Canada where parents are allowed to exempt their children from classes that teach the false notion of "safe sex". But if there is a reason to be upset - it's that Alberta is the only province where such protection is enshrined in law.

Abortion - To Benefit The Irresponsible Men

Found in the comments on the Big Blue Wave blog.
Abortion is just as much as about liberating men from responsibility as it is liberating women from motherhood.
Well said, Suzanne! No wonder there are so many men defending abortion. And some of them (like Morgentaler) actually make good money from it as well. Let's not forget to remind that to the poor-choicers when they claim that men have no moral right to oppose abortion because they never get pregnant.

P.S. The blog post itself which sparked this discussion, is also worth reading.

HRC Abuse Of Power - We Told You So... 10 Years Ago

By Tim Bloedow

One of the most terrifying aspects of Canadian politics for social conservatives – at least this should be the case – is the nation’s so-called “human rights” commissions and tribunals. These kangaroo courts, where historical, Judaeo-Christian principles of jurisprudence are tossed out the window, have established themselves in almost every part of Canada as the primary tool by which leftists seek to crush dissent in this country.

Those on the front lines are well aware that despite the positive images that ordinary Canadians might have of “human rights,” a vigorous battle is being fought under that banner against traditional values, unborn babies, the natural family and Christianity.

Am I exaggerating? People who have ears to hear will not think so when they find out some of the details about the committee Justice Minister Anne McLellan set up to review the Canadian Human Rights Act.
Today this may look like an ordinary article on 'human rights' commissions. But this was written in May of 1999. When the presumption was - that unless you're a neo-nazi radical - then it would never happen to you; that the censorship those commissions impose was quite 'reasonable', that it could be 'necessary' to protect minorities from abuse and discrimination...

Fast forward to late 2000s - and here we have people being persecuted for not merely disagreeing with a member of a privileged special interest group (typically - a Muslim or a homosexual radical). Here's the most recent example of what could happen nowadays when you say no to one of them.

Bishop Fred Henry: Euthanasia Bill Should Be Killed

H/t Freedom Through Truth:
The rhetoric of "choice," "aid-in-dying," "compassion," "a new medical treatment," "self-determination," "autonomy," and "death with dignity" tend to cover up the reality that euthanasia is a deliberate act undertaken by one individual with the intention and result of ending the life of another to relieve that person's suffering. Assisted suicide is the act of killing oneself with the assistance of another who provides the knowledge, means or both.

This proposed legislation would reverse the reigning medical ethic which for more than two millenniums has insisted that doctors must heal and never kill. Legalizing physician assisted suicide would irreparably damage the doctor-patient relationship. The patient's trust in the doctor's wholehearted devotion to the patient's best interests will be hard to sustain once doctors are licensed to kill. Furthermore, such legislation would put undue stress on the conscience of the physician pressured by patients and others to take part in killing.

The unmistakable issue is the intentional killing of a human being. It has nothing to do with natural death or dignity, and everything to do with killing. We are NOT discussing letting someone die.
Great rebuttal to all those who use the "dying with dignity" euphemism referring to euthanasia; not to mention those who claim that euthanasia is all about "letting someone die". The truth is: euthanasia (or assisted suicide) means direct and intentional actions that cause another person's death.

Humor: Conservative vs Liberal

Some weekend laughs :)
H/t Free Dominion
If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a black or Hispanic are conservative, they see themselves as independently successful.
Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed.
If a liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he's in labor and then sues.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended".

Social Media for Pro-Lifers

How internet and social media could help pro-lifers to get the message out - some thoughts from the UofT Students For Life Blog. This article appeared in the November NCLN newsletter. (H/t Big Blue Wave.)
The Internet offers a variety of opportunities for pro-life clubs to engage a wider audience. The key is in understanding the social part of the web.

Traditional broadcast media have typically been about a mass audience (one-to-many, e.g. TV, radio) and traditional communications media, about personal communication (one-to-one, e.g. telephones). The internet, on the other hand, offers a mass communications platform. That’s why internet media are often referred to as social media. On the web, it’s not about broadcast. It’s about multi-directional communication.

In geek speak: input and output.
Meanwhile, No Apologies is making a step beyond the text-only mode, launching its live-streaming broadcasts. NoApologies is looking forward to put together a regular predictable schedule in the weeks ahead so that subscribers could view those video reports live.
NoApologies is committed to becoming a leading source of news, commentary and analysis for Christians who want to be informed and secularists who want to be educated on key issues and developments in Canada’s political and cultural arenas.
The first event to be broadcast is the ECP euthanasia talk, by Tim Bloedow, that will take place today at Bethel URC in Aylmer, Ontario at 7:30pm Eastern time (which is about an hour from now). If for some reason, the live-streaming can't be accessed on the No Apologies website, then please visit their USTREAM page by clicking here.

Could There Actually Be Something Positive About Abortion?

They believe that abortion facilities wouldn't close if it wasn't for us "casting a negative light on abortion". Oh, come on! Could there actually be something positive about abortion? Could it be that abortion "doctors", despite whatever medical education they have, just don't know what abortion is all about?!
Ann Fox, president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, said most of the stigma is within the medical community.

“It’s not interesting, it’s not life-saving,” she said, “it’s not any of the things that doctors go into medicine for.”

Dr. Patty Giebink was an abortionist for Planned Parenthood in the 1990s, but had a change of heart. She’s now a strong voice for life.

“The people who are still doing abortions, many of them are lying and are in it for the money,” she said. “They don’t care about women.”

She noted the reasons people are pro-abortion are coming apart at the seams.

In the past several months, Planned Parenthood has announced the closing of several abortion clinics, including six in El Paso, Texas, and another six in Indiana.
So, here you have it. Those who know what they're doing - are doing it for money. And those who don't know (those not directly involved in performing abortions,) are doing their best to remain ignorant about what exactly is going on in those "clinics". Because ignorance is power - the power that fuels the abortion industry:
"I saw a full side profile, so I saw face to feet on the ultrasound machine," said Johnson. "I saw the probe going into the woman's uterus, and at that moment I saw the baby moving and trying to get away from the probe."

"And I thought, 'It's fighting for its life," said Johnson. "And I thought, 'It's life.' I mean, it's alive. ...

"My mind was racing, my heart was beating so fast, and I just was thinking, 'Oh my gosh, make it stop.' Then all of a sudden, it was over. I saw the baby just literally crumble, and it was over."

Johnson recalled that the image of the child reminded her of the ultrasound image of her own daughter at 12 weeks gestation.

"If clinic workers saw what was happening on that screen, they would be running out of those clinics," Johnson concluded. "This is what the abortion industry does not want their workers to see ... they don't want people to see what's actually happening in the woman's womb."
Here's The Silent Scream. (H/t Big Blue Wave.) Watch this video, if you dare. (If you don't have much time - just jump to the 15-minute mark.) Now, do you think someone actually has to "cast a negative light" on a procedure like that? I think, the fact that there's absolutely nothing positive about abortion is self-evident.

Berlin Wall Still Standing — Around University Campuses

There, communist dictatorship didn't end in November of 1989:
The students of Young Americans for Liberty hosted a rally to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall at noon today on the lawn outside the Ann W. Olin Women’s Building at Washington University.

The students set up a gulag complete with prisoners, guards and barb wire on the Wash U campus.

Students constructed a memorial to the victims of socialism as a stark reminder of the horrors of socialism, and of its victims.
...
YAL leader John Burns reported on the event today.
The university shut it down… It was too offensive.
Of course it was! Nobody wants to be reminded that his utopia didn't work in real life, so I can understand the frustration of those pinko commies who run the university campuses. Although I'm afraid that the Young Americans for Liberty are celebrating way too early. Once the recently ratified Lisbon treaty takes effect, many Germans will notice that DDR is back and that it now covers all of Berlin and all of Germany.

Remembrance Day... Thoughts By Rev Thomas Sabourin

From the CHP e-mail communique. (Photo from the Blazing Cat Fur blog.)
It's November and I assume that just about every school in North America is engaged in learning of the Remembrance Day activities. The children are learning the age old poem 'In Flanders Fields' by John McCrae or is it Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae?

General Eisenhower Warned Us (excerpt from unknown writers)

It is a matter of history that when the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.

He did this because he said in words to this effect:

"Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the road of history some ------- (person of illegitimate birth) will get up and say that this never happened."

The UK (today) debating whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offends' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.

How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center 'NEVER HAPPENED'?

This Remembrance Day, let's Give Honour where honour is due!

It's the Military, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the Press. It's the Military, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of Speech. It's the Military, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

This week on the evening CTV News Cast it was reported that Steven Marshall, a Sapper from Alberta was the 133rd Canadian soldier who has fallen by the enemy's hand in Afghanistan. From one Sapper to another I salute you and say thank you for paying the ultimate price for the cause of freedom.

Major John McCrae in his powerful poem charges us:

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.'

As our young Canadians who are involved with the 2010 Olympic Games are carrying the flames across the country - let us remember that there are Canadian Soldiers that are still paying the ultimate price carrying 'The Torch' of our ancestors across the World...to proclaim freedom... if you see or meet a veteran or someone in uniform this week, just go up to him/her shake their hand and say thank you... God Bless You.
Lest We Forget!

Thoughts On Federal By-Elections

The biggest loss is for the Social Conservatives. What could have become a Canadian version of a grass-roots SoCon rebellion, turned out to be a disappointment, to say the least. Sure, unlike Doug Hoffman, Jim Hnatiuk didn't have the powerful endorsements from prominent Conservatives. But, considering that this is a strongly Conservative riding, that voters have already had some experience with showing their discontent with the governing party, considering all the work that Jim has put into the campaign, it was reasonable to expect if not a victory, then at least a breakthrough past the 10% mark.

This didn't happen; most of those who could have supported Jim, either stayed home or held their noses and voted for Scott Armstrong. As result, the Conservatives can keep appealing to the moderate, centrist voters without feeling threatened from the right. We, the Social Conservatives, can expect to be taken for granted - until we finally learn to organize. Yes, we need better organization; better strategists and better marketing for our ideas. Having the best solutions is great, but presenting them in a manner that would inspirit people to get out and vote is essential.

Other than that - not much is going to change. With the four vacant seats splitting evenly between the governing Conservatives and the opposition, the balance of power remains the same as it used to be prior to the by-elections. Even with the two new MPs on board, the Conservatives still need the support of the opposition to pass legislation and to win confidence votes. That also include the vote on the final progress report, mandated by the 2009/10 budget amendment and the vote on the 2010/11 budget itself. Both those voters the government is likely to win.

In The Name Of Official Tolerance, Mandated Intolerance

"Crucifix out, warming in" - Rex Murphy weighs in on recent court rulings in Europe:
...Blasted by the great cold winds of secularism and scientism, faith in the old sense, faith in Christianity in once or so-called Christian countries, is not only in decline and defensive. Faith is, at the public level, being actively pushed away, visited with dismissive scorn. At the same time, ideas, attitudes and “positions” that have never been seen under the rubric of faith increasingly seek the protections of “sanctified” belief.

What else to make of a human-rights ruling (no, not from one of our own restless engines of pseudo equity) from the European Court this week. According to this ruling, the crucifixes that hang in most Italian classrooms violate religious and educational freedoms. Yes, the cross in the Catholic country violates religious and educational freedoms. Is Dan Brown on the European Court?
...
In this case, the European Court of Human Rights – in response to one complaint, from one atheist – told an entire country that has been the centre of world Christianity for 2,000 years to get rid of its most revered and cardinal symbol. It's the same old story: In the name of official tolerance, mandated intolerance.

At least the Italian authorities mustered something of an appropriate response to this insolent busybodyness. One government minister, Roberto Calderoli, loosed this volley: “The European court has trodden on our rights, our culture, our history, our traditions and our values.” Another minister noted that preventing the crucifix from being displayed is “an act of violence against the deep-seated feelings of the Italian people and all persons of goodwill.”

Meantime, in the country of Matthew Arnold's birth, another judge was busy passing an Alice in Wonderland verdict. This case arose from a wrongful-dismissal claim by a man of intense Green passions who said he was fired because of his global warming beliefs. The judge ruled that “a belief in man-made climate change … is capable, if genuinely held, of being a philosophical belief” for the purpose of the Employment Equality (Religion and Belief) Regulations.
So, here you have it. Those who claim that their ideology is scientifically based (and that the science is "settled",) demand (and get) court-warranted protection as an organized religion. And a mere show of respect to the nation's founding religion ends up being denounced as "discriminatory". George Orwell's legacy lives on.

CCMV By-Election — Something To Think About

Well, the 'D-Day' is near. I wonder if all those who, for years, have been suggesting that we forget about candidates' social views and put "real" issues (such as taxes and healthcare) first, follow their own advice? Will those of them who live in Cumberland – Colchester – Musqoudoboit Valley, actually support a candidate who is there to offer better solutions for the economy, for healthcare, for families, and of course - for the people in the riding?
3. What will you do to increase the amount of infrastructure stimulus funding throughout the riding?

I want voters to know that there are ways to meet the needs of CCMV without increasing government debt through deficit spending, and taxing Canadians. There are infrastructure projects like the new hospital in Truro and the planned Truro-Colchester Civic Centre that the other parties, frankly don’t have a plan to finance beyond the rhetoric of the ‘Gas tax’ or deficit financing. That’s not good enough anymore. Taxing Canadians and deficit budgets aren’t working. They’re robbing us of our competiveness as a nation, and eroding our standard of living.

CHP Canada would simply use the Bank of Canada to fund our infrastructure needs, making no-interest loans to provinces like Nova Scotia, so these much needed projects could become reality—without taxing Canadians today and long into the future. From about 1945 until 1974, this is largely how Canada financed government expenditures. And the level of national debt was a small fraction of the nations GDP, and income taxes were low. It’s time to use the Bank of Canada as it was designed, to serve the best interests of the country.
If that's not common sense then what is? Vote splitting is out of question this time. Jim Hnatiuk is the only candidate in the riding who stands for both fiscal and social conservatism.

...Too Selfish To Have Children

Chief Rabbi, Sir Jonathan Sacks, knows what he's talking about:
The chief rabbi, who entered the House of Lords last week as Lord Sacks of Aldgate, made his comments in a lecture called Religion in the 21st century hosted in London by Theos, a Christian thinktank, on Wednesday night. While Sacks aired concerns shared by other clerics – about religion contributing positively to public life and the dangers of a secular society – he also went further and accused non-believers of lacking family values.

"Europe today is the most secular region in the world. Europe is the only region in the world experiencing population decline. Wherever you turn today the more religious the community, the larger on average are their families.

"Parenthood involves massive sacrifice: money, attention, time and emotional energy. Where today, in European culture with its consumerism and its instant gratification because you're worth it."

There was no room for sacrifice for "the sake of generations not yet born" in such a culture.
No wonder the secular humanist elite strives to push their ideology down our children's throats. They know that if they let us pass our values to our children - the aging secular humanist society will be outnumbered in just a couple of decades.

Sure, even if they succeed in corrupting our children, their society will still be outnumbered; the only difference is that it will happen later; most likely - sometime in 2040s or 50s, rather than in 2020s. But they're ok with that, they know they won't be around by then, and they don't care what happens after they die. That will be the next generation's problem. Our children's problem — because those that seek to corrupt them, have aborted and contracepted most of theirs.

Euthanasia Supporters Attempt To Win Some Time

Voting on C-384 has been postponed to December 2nd:
The private members bill, proposed by Member of Parliament Francine Lalonde (BQ-La Pointe-de-l'Île), received its first of two hours of debate on October 2nd. The second hour was originally scheduled for November 16th, with a vote to follow shortly after.

Lalonde moved the date of the second debate to November 19th a few days ago by trading with another Bloc MP. She's now traded again, delaying the debate until December 1st at 5:30 p.m., with a vote the next day.

"I think she's trying to create support for her bill," said Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition. "And I think the only way she can create it is by giving her some time, but she doesn't have time."
Hopefully she doesn't. But apparently, the plan is to seek support from those MPs that don't support euthanasia, but that are ok with assisted suicide. They can be promised that if they let C-384 pass the second reading, the committee will then rewrite the bill to make it appear less controversial (without such terms as "appearing to be lucid".) The amended bill would then
So that it would look like a reasonable compromise for the moderates and a "foot in the door" - for the euthanasia supporters. That seems to be the plan but hopefully, even with the moderates on board, C-384 doesn't get enough support to pass the third reading.
With the change in date, disability rights advocate Steven Passmore has moved his protest to December 1st from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is urging people to join Passmore on Parliament Hill at that time.
Hopefully, our MPs take that protest in consideration as they vote on C-384.

Soap From Human Bodies Is Back In Stores

Or, wait, this time it's skin cream...
A Swiss company that uses aborted fetal cells in its skin cream is the target of a boycott campaign by Children of God for Life, a Tennessee-based anti-abortion group.

The group discovered the skin cream line last week, although the company, NeoCutis, has been in business since 2003.

Debi Vinnedge, from Children of God for Life, said: "There's just no excuse for using aborted babies in skin-care products."

A Toronto dermatologist says NeoCutis's use of aborted fetal cells in the cream is "a bit weird."
Pro-aborts hate it when we compare abortion to the Holocaust, but really, what's the difference? That those who died in the Holocaust were singled out because of their ethnicity, while abortion victims are targeted because of their age or viability? Number-wise, abortion has long outperformed the Holocaust; 50 million unborn babies butchered in US and Canada alone - that's the same order of magnitude as all the casualties of the Second World War put together. And we witness some of the pro-abort gang trying different ways to put all that "useless tissue" to a good use - just like their predecessors did back in early 1940s.

If this story is true, if that company did use aborted fetal cells in its skin cream - then it should suffer the same fate as the Nazi soap factories.

40 Days For Life — Looking Back

Hundreds of lives were saved - because people came out and prayed:
Thank you for an amazing 40 days! As of the dawn of Day 40 of this fall's 40 Days for Life campaign, we have received 534 reports of mothers who've turned away from abortion abortion appointments and spared the lives of unborn children. We know of eight more abortion center employees who have quit their jobs – and we're praying for others who are considering it.
(From the 40 Days For Life website)
With the last day reports still coming in, it turns out that there were as many as 571 babies saved. Try to picture a dozen of school buses full of children - that's the difference we've made.

And, at least two babies (maybe as many as four or five) were saved here in Fredericton — thanks to the tireless efforts of the devoted pro-lifers from Fredericton and from all across New Brunswick, who kept the vigil going, rain or shine.

Sure, it may seem like a drop in the bucket, considering that in Canada alone, we have about a 100,000 abortions a year. Still, if there is a way to save at least those few that can be saved, it's worth the effort. Overall, since the very first 40 Days For Life vigil, more than 2000 babies were saved.
Starting with the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign in Bryan/College Station, Texas in 2004, and continuing through the international 40 Days for Life effort that has just concluded, we now have confirmed reports of at more than 2,000 babies whose lives have been saved from the tragedy of abortion.
...
40 Days for Life is the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history. The fall 40 Days for Life campaign, which began September 23, will conclude on November 1. The initiative, in 212 cities across 45 American states, five Canadian provinces, and Denmark, consists of 40 days of intense prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, peaceful vigils outside abortion facilities, and grassroots community organizing. Since 2004, some local 678 campaigns have been conducted in 282 communities, covering all 50 American states, the District of Columbia and American Samoa, as well as Canada, Australia, Northern Ireland and Denmark.
And here's another accomplishment that has the potential of saving a lot more lives in the future: the director of the Planned Parenthood abortion center in Bryan/College Station, Texas has quit abortion business. Bryan/College Station, Texas - that's the place where the very first 40 Days For Life vigil was held. The Lord works in mysterious ways...

Freedom Of Speech On Campus — A Small Victory In Calgary, A Setback In Thunder Bay

Crown Prosecutor stays trespassing charges against Calgary pro-life students.
CALGARY The trespassing charges laid against six members of Campus Pro-Life at the University of Calgary have been stayed by the Crown Prosecutor, effectively meaning that the charges have ended.

The group’s display held on the University of Calgary campus every semester since 2006, termed the Genocide Awareness Project, precipitated the charges. The display compares abortion to past historical atrocities, such as the Rwandan genocide and the Holocaust in Nazi Germany.

Club President Leah Hallman stated, “We are relieved by this decision on the part of the Crown Prosecutor; Campus Pro-Life has consistently maintained that all of our actions were in full compliance under the law.”

The charges were initially delivered to the homes of several students by members of the Calgary Police Service in February of 2009. On March 16th, all charged members pleaded not guilty. At the time, Hallman argued "We have asked the university several times which of its by-laws, policies, regulations or other authority it relies on for censoring our viewpoint, and have received no answer to date.”

The staying of the charges takes place nearly one year after the November 2008 display on campus that was the catalyst for the charges being laid.

“Campus Pro-Life will continue being a voice for the voiceless,” states Club Treasurer Alanna Campbell, “we hope to continue our activities on campus and raise awareness among the next generation of community leaders.”
In my opinion, it would be a lot better if those charges were dismissed outright, rather than merely "stayed". But, if the Crown Prosecutor is unwilling to make it clear for the university officials that students can't really be trespassers in a university in which they are legally enrolled, at least he's not going to proceed with the charges. That too is a small victory for freedom of speech on campuses.

Too bad that this small victory has been overshadowed by the Lakehead University "student union" decision to ban the campus pro-lifer club. This is a typical situation, which is familiar to pro-life students from coast to coast. In Lakehead University, the "student union" had been trying to prevent Lakehead University Life Support from obtaining a club status for two years, so once the status was finally granted, they used the first excuse they could come up with to ban LULS again.

The club is going to appeal this decision. That's a good start, but what we need is an organized campaign from coast to coast to put an end to the censorship, imposed on pro-life students by the self-proclaimed "student governments". Either they stop silencing students simply because they don't agree with what they say, or they should allow pro-life students to leave the unions and to form their own representative organizations on campuses.

Saving the Canadian Human Rights Commission through amputation

Great article by George Jonas:
Richard Moon is the law professor retained last year by the Canadian Human Rights Commission to write a report about the regulation of “hate speech” on the Internet. He didn’t strike people as a libertarian when he got his commission, so he surprised many when he recommended the repeal of Section 13, the controversial “hate speech” provision, from the Canadian Human Rights Act.

The other day, Moon outlined in the Saskatchewan Law Review Annual Lecture how he arrived at his recommendation, leaving little doubt he threw the dead ballast of s. 13 overboard to save the leaky vessel of the CHRC. He reasoned, he said, that speech should be prohibited only if it advocated, threatened or justified violence against an identifiable group, not if it merely defamed or stereotyped it, and that prohibition against preaching violence should come under the Criminal Code, not the Human Rights Act.
...
A law that takes an “expansive” view of discriminatory conduct based on the subjective feelings of groups selected to be immunized against existential trauma, then bases censure or sanctions against conduct that falls short of this standard, not on what the “actors” had actually done or intended to do, but on the effect their actions may have had on the most hostile or sensitive or vulnerable member of an immunized group, and finally adds insult to injury by describing this arbitrary, coercive and iniquitous process as “a non-adjudicative resolution of a ‘dispute,’” turns society into a mixture between Orwell’s 1984 and a Monty Python skit.
Hopefully, removing section 13.1, will be just the first amputation in a series of many, that will result in the Star Chamber being dismantled and its mandate - transferred to the court of law. Even when it comes to the HRC's original mandate, which is preventing discrimination in housing and employment - that too can be handled by the courts. It could be the Small Claims court or some other judicial body where the common law rules of evidence do apply and where the truth qualifies as defense. After all, an individual's right to file a complaint over discrimination should not trump the defendant's right to a fair trial.

In addition to that, the courts that assume the HRC mandate should ensure that filing similar complaints in multiple jurisdictions is not allowed and that bogus complaints are filtered out promptly, without forcing the defendant to go through a couple years of legal turmoil, not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars in legal expenses one would face because of that. The latter, by the way, is yet another form of abuse that must end. Currently the complainer gets all his legal expenses paid by the taxpayers, regardless of his income level. I understand why we may offer some legal aid to the low-income complainers that don't have the money to pay their legal fees, but then, same legal aid should also be available to the defendants - for fairness sake.

Listen To National Pro-Life Webcast with Fr. Pavone, Con. Franks, and David Bereit

From the Abolish Abortion news bulletin:
On October 20th, Students for Life of America held it's first national webcast about the state of the campus pro-life movement. We were honored to have pro-life heavy hitters: Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, David Bereit of 40 Days for Life, and. U.S. Congressman Trent Franks (AZ) on the call giving a national update and talking about the importance of the campus pro-life movement. In addition, we were blessed to have 3 pro-life students on the webcast talking about the unique challenges each of them face as pro-lifers on their college campuses.

This is a webcast that no one should miss. It is educational and inspiring!

Please listen to the replay here: http://www.instantteleseminar.com/?eventid=9170121.

Thank you for all that you do for Life,

Kristan Hawkins
Executive Director
Students for Life of America
It's a great report on the amazing work that Students For Life America is doing. Take an hour of your time to listen to these great speeches and great interviews, as the leaders of the pro-life movement in the US share their experience; an experience we badly need to organize pro-lifers here in Canada and to develop more young leaders to transform our nation one heart, one mind, on soul at a time.

Al Gore Predicts 67-Meter Sea Level Rise in 10 years

"That's up a full 47 meters from the already horrifying predictions he’s made previously." Luckily, all that sea level rise is going to happen only in Al Gore's Halloween nightmares:
The scariest story told this Halloween week had nothing to do with ghosts, goblins, or zombies, though it was certainly dripping with huge gobs of Gore. In fact -- the most terrifying words screeched in the past seven days came from the master of environmental horror himself.

According to Arab Internet services company Maktoob.com, our favorite greenhouse gasbag spent Tuesday afternoon outlining the reasons why attendees of the Leaders in Dubai Business Forum must change their wicked gas-guzzling ways:
“The North Pole ice cap is 40 percent gone already and could be completely and totally gone in the winter months in the next 5 to 10 years.”
Such thaw, cautioned Gore, “could increase sea levels by 67 metres” and that “each one metre of sea level rise (SLR) is associated with 100 million climate refugees in the world.” That’s up a full 47 meters from the already horrifying predictions he’s made previously.
...
Anyway, if my math is correct, the 2007 Nobel laureate effectively predicted that by 2020, the oceans could rise 220 feet and 6,700,000,000 people will be forced to wander the planet in search of a less soggy domicile.

And the journey won’t be easy, what with much of the planet underwater and its entire population -- which Gore’s 6.7 billion amounts to -- vying for whatever dry land remains available.

But before we pack our tents, inflatable rafts, and foreign-language dictionaries, let’s take a closer look at the green Stephen King’s figures.
To say that Al Gore's predictions are exaggerated is to say nothing. But at least, thanks to all that global warm-mongering by Al Gore & Co, more people begin to realize that this is all a scam, that there's no man-made "global warming" or "climate change" taking place. Especially, when we keep getting one cold winter after the other.
